PAC BRANCHING OUT SCHOLARSHIP
This is an annual scholarship designed to ease the financial burden for graduated building and construction apprentices who wish to take their qualification to the next level and study further.
Check out some of our FAQ’s below for more info.
The scholarship aims to ease the financial burden for graduated building and construction apprentices who wish to take their qualification to the next level and study further.
The value of the scholarship is up to a maximum of NZ$2,500 excl. GST per calendar year, depending on the actual cost of your study activity. For example, if your course related costs amount to NZ$2,200 excl. GST, this is the amount you will be awarded if your application is successful. If your course related costs exceed NZ$2,500 excl. GST, you will only be awarded the maximum NZ$2,500 excl. GST and you will have to pay the excess. We currently offer one scholarship per calendar year. If there are multiple applicants whose course related costs fall within NZ$2,500 excl. GST, more than one applicant will be awarded part of the scholarship. The course that the application relates to must be undertaken in the same calendar year that the scholarship is awarded.
It covers course-related expenses like the course fee itself, plus any related learning materials (e.g. text book or handbook). The scholarship does not cover travel, accommodation or food.
Applications are open to graduates who have achieved their Level 4 National Certificate and who are currently PAC members (and must still be PAC members when undertaking the study). This includes previous recipients of PASS.
Only one application per person, per calendar year, will be accepted.
The field of study needs to relate to upskilling for the building and construction industry, however can be any related course or seminar that will help you take the next step in your building career (e.g. higher level qualification, training programmes or seminars/short courses offering business management skills, etc.)
You will need to provide details about the course or seminar that you have enrolled for or plan to register for; including the dollar amount you are applying for, your PAC member number and some personal contact information.
If successful, we will need proof of your enrolment in the course or seminar that your application relates to, as well as evidence of the cost of the course or seminar; and some other information.
If awarded, the scholarship money will be paid directly to the recipient’s study institution or course provider. The recipient will need to provide relevant banking information to facilitate this. In the event that the recipient has already paid the fees (fully or partially), PlaceMakers will reimburse the recipient after a valid receipt is produced.
Applications for the PAC Branching Out scholarship are generally open between February to April each year. Applications for 2024 scholarship have now closed. We will announce the next scholarships dates in early 2025.
The application form is downloadable in PDF format via the PAC online hub. Once completed and signed, the form can be emailed to pac@placemakers.co.nz
All applications will be assessed by the PlaceMakers Trade Engagement Manager, who manages the PlaceMakers Apprentice Crew (PAC). Additional information may be requested from the applicant if clarification or verification is required to fairly and accurately assess the application. The Trade Engagement Manager will consider how well the intended use of the scholarship meets the purpose of the scholarship. All decisions made will be final.
PlaceMakers will attempt to contact the successful applicant by telephone in the first instance. A follow-up email will be sent shortly afterwards, which will include specifics of the scholarship and any additional information required by the recipient.
Yes. Details of each scholarship recipient will be posted on the PAC Facebook page and online hub. PlaceMakers may also publish the details in the Under Construction trade publication (print, electronic and online) and any other media it deems necessary.
Each unsuccessful applicant can re-apply. They can submit one application per calendar year. If unsuccessful, they can submit another application the following calendar year; and so on. There is no limit to the amount of times the applicant may re-apply over the lifetime of the scholarship scheme, as long as they only submit one application per calendar year.
Send us an email to pac@placemakers.co.nz or message us via the online hub. We will respond within two working days.
