Aramoana League Hall Re-Roofing
Since 1958 countless memories have been made at the Aramoana League Hall, where special occasions, events and gatherings have taken place at a simple hall with a special place in the heart of this Otago community.
From hosting sports and church groups, to Scouts, family celebrations and local activities, the multi-use Hall is overdue for a new roof, a wish that the PlaceMakers Foundation and local tradies will be bringing to life over the Easter long weekend with a Big Build Grant.
Fully-funded by the PlaceMakers Foundation, a team of local builders, PlaceMakers team members and keen volunteers will be rolling up their sleeves to replace the roof with features iron from the original roof, creating a safe and sturdy new roof set to last for many decades.
John Davis, Secretary of the Aramoana League says the reroofing project is long overdue and the community is eager to get involved too.
“The vision of the League is to support the wellbeing of all who live in and visit Aramoana and the wider community, so this new roof will definitely help to improve our facilities for everyone who uses and enjoys this facility,” said Mr Davis. “I even had my 21st birthday and wedding reception here!”
“The current roof just isn’t up to scratch any more so we’re all very excited to be mucking in over Easter and our volunteers are here to help out too - from labouring to keeping everyone fed.”
Bruce McEwen, PlaceMakers Chief Executive and Foundation Chair, says the three-day reroofing project is a great demonstration of the local impact the PlaceMakers Foundation has. “Making a long-held goal a reality for a community like Aramoana is exactly what the Foundation is all about and it shows the great connection between stores, staff and the public nationwide.”
The PlaceMakers Foundation combines charitable giving, the skills of PlaceMakers’ own staff and customers, and all available resources to help make a lasting difference in communities around the country. From a helping hand for local groups to bringing major projects to fruition through the Big Build Grant programme, the goal of the PlaceMakers Foundation is to make a change and together build a better New Zealand.
